Staff - Jillian Borchard
Jillian Borchard, MS, Clinical Herbalist, received her Masters of Science in Herbal Medicine degree from Tai Sophia Institute, the first graduate program in herbal medicine in the United States. In addition to establishing her own clinical practice, Greenspring Herbs, Jillian is the Resident Herbalist for Roots Market, a health food store with locations in Clarksville and Olney, MD. Jillian is also on faculty at Tai Sophia institute, where she supervises in the student clinic and teaches community classes.
Jillian found her passion for medicinal herbs in the Ozark Mountains while participating in forest protection work in the mid 1990's. She became fascinated with the plants that were indicators of a healthy forest and ecosystem, and the fact that many of these plants were highly valued for their medicinal properties. This interest led her to pursue education in herbal medicine, first at the California School of Herbal Studies, and then at Tai Sophia Institute. Her work is informed by both her commitment to people’s health and her commitment to the health of the planet. The two are not separate, and in fact, are completely dependent on one another.
